ROTARY KILN (Coal-based DRI Plant)

GROWMECH Rotary Kilns (Coal-based DRI Plant) are breakthrough technologies, having revolutionalised the production of Sponge Iron also known as Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) from Hematite iron ore. The rotary kilns are used to remove oxygen from the hematite iron ore through direct reduction process using non-coking coal as the fuel and reducing agent.

Our rotary kilns are known to produce sponge iron rich in metallic iron (pure iron) with consistent chemical and physical characteristics which give steelmakers the needed flexibility to prepare their furnace charge for production of quality steels. The quality of our range of rotary kilns has made them the most-preferred and most-used for magnetisation roasting of iron for iron and steel mines professionals in the metallurgical industry.

DRI Making Flow in Rotary Kiln

The process involves the formation of reducing gas CO and iron ore by the reducing gases. The important aspects are:

  • thermodynamics and kinetics of reduction and gasification reaction;
  • movement of solids in the rotary kiln and its residence time;
  • gas evolution and flow rate; and
  • heat transfer and temperature profile.

Features of the Rotary Kilns

  • Dimensions of Kiln: 500 TPD
  • Length: 82 metre
  • Internal Diameter from shell to shell: 4.8 metre
  • Kiln shell thickness: 25mm
  • Inclination: 2.5%
  • Kiln inlet opening: 3.0 metre
  • Kiln outlet opening: 2.3 metre
  • Capacity: 500 TPD

Steps

  • Raising the temperature of raw materials to the optimum reaction temperature
  • Generation of reducing gases
  • Adsorption of gases on the surface of ore to the reaction interface
  • Reaction of gases with the oxide and release of products of reaction
  • Desorption of gaseous products from the reacted interface

Advantages of Sponge Iron (DRI)

The advantages of the DRI made through GrowMech rotary kiln are not limited to:

  • fe content and high degree of metallization.
  • uniform and consistent quality.
  • lower sulphur & phosphorus content.
  • negligible tramp elements.
  • minimum dust generation during handling.
  • good flow ability in bins and conveyors for continuous and trouble free charging.
  • superior technical support to furnace operators.
